Dear Friends,
Subscribers are vitally important to the success of our theater. And the
great news is that our subscriber family continues to grow. In fact,
we had a 20% increase in overall subscribers in 2011, the sign of a bring future for theater at the Playhouse. It's you, and people just like you, who we have to thank for that. If you haven't yet joined our subscriber family, won't you consider doing so in 2012? In addition to saving up to 40% off the single ticket price, you'll experience the breadth and scope of our eclectic season.
As our audience continues to grow, so do our hopes and aspirations. We strive every year to bring you the best live theater created by the finest artists. But we also aim to offer you new and exciting experiences, the widest array of musicals, comedies, world premieres, and timeless classics. In that spirit, the four extraordinary plays and one musical that we have chose for the next year constitute as ambitious a season as the Playhouse has tackled in some time. I couldn't be more excited to share them with you.
Stephen Sondheim's witty, haunting Into the Woods, in a lavish co-production with Baltimore's CENTERSTAGE, will open the season, to be followed by Joan Didion's The Year of Magical Thinking starring Maureen Anderman, in a role she performed on Broadway. This powerful story will move you deeply. Molière's hilarious comedy Tartuffe, a delicious skewering of religious obsession, comes next. Audiences have been laughing at this great play for hundreds of year, and it is still as fresh as can be. A World Premiere comedy, Harbor, by Tony-nominated Chad Begeulin, explores the life of an unconventional American family and a momentous decision that could change their lives forever. And the season finale, Lorraine Hansberry's masterpiece of powerful drama, A Raisin in the Sun - never before presented in 80+ seasons at the Playhouse - will be brought to life in an exhilarating new production.
We eagerly anticipate sharing these plays with you next year. I hope you're as excited as I am to adventure with us to these five wonderful worlds. I can't wait to see you at the Playhouse.
Sincerely,

Mark Lamos
Artistic Director
P.S. I have included a few thoughts about why I love each of these plays in the brochure on the left. Enjoy!
