Grades 2-5
Westport Country Playhouse are launching a new, three-week long summer camp program called Summer in the House, for students grades two through five, July 7 through 25, through the Playhouse’s education department.

Summer in the House offers students exposure to the discipline and techniques of theatre in a creative environment using an approach which combines music, movement and drama. Through fun and enriching activities, children will learn to use their bodies, voices, minds and imaginations. The program is staffed with artist-educators who are professionals in their field and are dedicated to nurturing creativity in each child.

Classes will be located in the Sheffer Rehearsal Studio on the Playhouse campus.

Grades 2-3 (rising)


Meet Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Specifically designed for young actors, students will work with artist-educators on scenes from classic folk and fairy tales for a presentation on the final day of class.

Grades 4-5 (rising)


Meet Monday through Friday, 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Specifically for developing actors, students will work with artist-educators in the preparation of scenes from age-appropriate scripts including Shakespeare’s stories for a presentation on the final day of class.

Tuition is $725.
Registration is limited to 20 students per class.

Writers and their Pets - Funny and unexpected stories about people, pets and their problems. This evening will feature multi-Emmy Award-winner Sonia Manzano known best for her role as Maria on Sesame Street; stage, film and television actress Bernadette Quigley, and Symphony Space co-founder and Artistic Director Isaiah Sheffer, reading stories by Roberston Davies, Gail Godwin and Ana Menendez about some pretty remarkable pets, including a bird, a dragon and a Frankenstein cat!

When a prize-winning show dog escapes the tarmac at LaGuardia airport, the ensuing crisis entangles the lives of a blue-collar Astoria couple with marriage problems, an immigrant baggage handler, and an under-employed actress leading the rescue effort.
