Westport Playhouse presents romantic thriller

Joe Brancato was instantly drawn to the damaged souls of Adelaide Pinchin and George Love in Karoline Leach's "Tryst," opening Tuesday at the Westport Country Playhouse, when he saw a previous incarnation of the Edwardian romantic thriller in 1997 at The Comedy Theatre in London.
What drew him, he says, was the humanity of a con man, played by Mark Shanahan, who marries unsuspecting women to swindle them out of their savings, and the complexity of a lonely milliner's assistant - Andrea Maulella - who falls for his lies and marries him. That dynamic introduces the possibility of equal salvation and redemption for two flawed people who play an emotional tug-of-war as they weave an unexpected bond during their honeymoon...
