Together at the Table is designed to make professional theatre more accesible to families and to promote a lifelong interest in theatre. For $10 a ticket, families are able to come to the Playhouse, share a family-style dinner, and attend a play. With this unique program, all families are able to affordably become patrons of the arts.
In 2009, the inaugural season of Together at the Table, the Playhouse was able to welcome more than 60 families to the theater. In 2010, the Playhouse will host four Together at the Table dinners, serving upwards of 200 families throughout the season.
Family Festivities at the Playhouse aim to make live theater accessible to our youngest audience members. We select shows that encourage children’s imaginations to come alive with stage presentations of new stories and old favorites, many drawn from classic works of literature. Each show is preceded by lively children’s activities in the Sheffer Rehearsal Barn. Taught by professional artists and supported by Playhouse staff, the pre-show activities are designed to reflect an aspect of the production in order to further enrich each child’s experience. For families who want to bring a piece of the experience home, we off the books and stories that our Family Festivity shows draw upon at our lobby bookstore.
