Singer-songwriter and Westport native George Barrett comes to Westport Country Playhouse, along with Nashville-based singer-songwriter Sarah Gross, for an evening of new music and old favorites.
George Barrett has lived many lives – musician, singer-songwriter, teacher, athlete, coach, business leader – and he puts them all into his music and songwriting.
George Barrett’s unique path from musician to business leader and back to music has endowed him with a perspective as diverse as his musical influences. George grew up in Westport in a home filled with the sounds of classical, folk, rock, blues and jazz. His diverse musical upbringing, combined with his buttery voice and natural comfort on guitar and piano, laid the foundation for an eclectic and rich music journey. After honing his skills as a session singer and performer in the vibrant clubs of NYC’s Greenwich Village, George took a detour, embarking on what would become an extensive career in healthcare without ever letting go of his musical roots. His life took a significant turn in 2022 when he reconnected with fellow Westport native, acclaimed musician, composer, and producer, Brian Keane. The reunion sparked the creation of “Not Alone,” Barrett’s debut album. George and Brian joined forces again on George’s most recent album, “Rearrange Things” (2025).
Nashville-based, Long Island-raised, Sarah Gross blends country, Americana, and folk with sharp lyricism, grounded storytelling, and an unmistakably East Coast point of view. Her unique perspective has taken her from gigging in Long Island to singing onstage with Zach Bryan at UBS Arena, being featured on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon and reaching millions on social media. Her July 2026 album, The Old Side of Being Young, features her most grounded work yet exploring themes of growth, nostalgia and uncertainty with her distinctly powerful voice and signature wit.
George and his dynamic band (along with frequent special guests) have been on the road sharing new music, old favorites and beloved covers and we are excited to welcome them to the Playhouse for a special evening to raise funds for the Playhouse Playwright’s Project, which discovers, supports, and presents new plays by writers at every stage of their careers, from first readings and workshops to full productions on the Mainstage.
