The 2021 season — reconceived.
Almost exactly one year ago, we made the difficult decision to postpone the five productions in 2020 Playhouse season to 2021. With safety our number one concern, we need to adjust our plans again. Although we can see the light at the end of the pandemic tunnel, it’s not yet possible under Actors’ Equity and other stage union guidelines to safely gather for rehearsals or performances. We also want the best conditions for the stories we tell; for some, we’ll wait for a time when they can be on a stage — with sets, lights, and choreography.
To that end, we have reconceived our 2021 season of entertainment as a diverse offering that can excel in our current virtual environment — for both theater makers and audiences. All content will be available on-demand for your convenience. For those who love our pre- and post-performance events, we’re making plans to take them online, so you can reconnect with friends and Playhouse staff alike.
For our loyal season package ticket holders, rest assured — we are holding your seat locations for when we are back in the Robards!

Tiny House

Tiny House is a perfect play to be recreated for our virtual world and will open our 2021 season in June, directed by Mark Lamos. A thoughtful new comedy with characters whose lives are reduced to smaller human circles is something we can all relate to.

Doubt: A Parable

John Patrick Shanley’s Doubt: A Parable will close the season in late fall. The Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award winner is an intimate drama which explores the the consequences of missed cues and decisions made from differing points of view.

Our ever-popular series of playreadings continue — virtually! For 2021, you you can now choose to join us for the 7PM Monday broadcasts, or catch the readings on-demand, anytime through Sunday of the broadcast week.
We launched in February with A Sherlock Carol, and we have four more readings scheduled for the rest of 2021. Mark your calendars now! Single tickets for all readings will go on sale approximately four weeks prior to the start of each show.

We want you to experience three of our productions that were previously scheduled for 2020 (then postponed until 2021) in person.
Next to Normal and Ain’t Misbehavin’, with directors/choreographers Marcos Santana and Camille A. Brown, respectively, have been postponed to 2022.
LA Williams, previously set to direct Blues for an Alabama Sky in 2021, will now return in 2022 with another play of his choosing.
